Diabetes is a chronic disease (Long-lasting). It is characterised by high blood sugar levels. The medical term for diabetes mellitus is diabetes.

Diabetes happens when the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not use insulin correctly. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose enter the cells and turn into energy.

  • Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce any insulin at all or cannot use it properly.
  • Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot use it properly.

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which the body cannot properly regulate blood sugar levels.

The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that helps the body use or store glucose. When the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not respond appropriately to insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream.
